The Dubai CV format that actually gets read (2026 template)

There's a specific format Dubai and UAE recruiters expect — and getting it wrong is the most common reason good candidates never hear back. This is the template we'd give any professional applying in the Gulf, section by section, with an example.

The golden rule: format for the ATS first

Most UAE employers screen CVs with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) before a human reads them. Fancy two-column templates, icons, text boxes and images often confuse the parser and get you auto-rejected. So the format is deliberately plain: one column, standard headings, normal fonts, no images for anything important, and a text-based file (never a scanned image or JPEG). The Dubai CV template, section by section

1. Header

Name, target job title, and contact block. Include the details Gulf recruiters search for:

2. Professional summary (3–4 lines)

A tight, keyword-rich pitch tailored to the role. Example:

"Senior financial analyst with 7+ years in UAE banking and fintech. Built FP&A models that cut monthly close by 40% and supported AED 200M in lending decisions. CFA Level II, advanced Excel and Power BI. Available on one-month notice."

3. Work experience (reverse-chronological)

For each role: company, title, location, dates — then achievement bullets with numbers, not duty lists.

• ✅ "Built the model behind AED 200M in lending decisions, adopted as the team standard."

Use the same words the job ad uses. If it says "FP&A" and "IFRS," those exact terms should appear.

4. Skills

A clean list of the hard skills and tools named in the posting — e.g., FP&A, IFRS, Excel (advanced), Power BI, SQL, SAP. This is where the ATS looks for keyword matches, so mirror the ad.

5. Education & certifications

Degrees, professional qualifications (CFA, PMP, CPA, cloud/security certs) and any UAE-relevant licences. Include graduation years.

6. Optional extras

Languages (a real asset in the Gulf), and a one-line note on availability if not already in the header. Keep hobbies out unless directly relevant.

The photo, nationality & visa question

Gulf CVs traditionally include nationality and visa status (definitely keep those), and often a photo. But an ATS can't read a photo, and image-heavy headers can bury your name. Our advice: keep the ATS version photo-light or photo-free, and if you want a photo, use it on a version you share directly with a recruiter. Always state nationality, visa status and availability as plain text.

Common format mistakes that get you rejected

• Design-tool templates with two columns, icons or graphics the ATS mangles.
• Submitting a scanned image or JPEG instead of a text-based PDF/Word file.
• A generic CV sent to every role instead of tailoring keywords to each ad.
• Duty lists with no numbers, so nothing stands out.
• Missing visa status and availability — details Gulf recruiters specifically search for.
